About The Project:

The new project "Advancing Child Sensitive Social Protection in the Philippines" is an expanded version of the previous CSSP project in Leyte province covering 26 barangays across 3 municipalities and 1 city. The project approaches such as Barangay Social Protection and Related Initiatives Link (BSPRIL), ICDP parenting program, Community Clusters for Children (3Cs) and the Youth Resilience Program (YRP) have yielded substantial results that the same approaches will be replicated in the Samar, while implementing them in the existing barangays of Leyte to ensure sustainability of impact and possible scale up of the BSPRIL approach by the Department of Internal and Local Government (DILG), after DSWD adopted the ICDP Parenting program for a national scale up for the 4P beneficiaries through a memorandum of agreement signed by the DSWD Secretary on December 1, 2022.

Needs of the Community:

  • Lack or no access to social protection programs and related services of the people especially those most impacted by inequality and discrimination (MIBID)
  • Increased risks and vulnerability of children to child protection issues such as sexual and physical abuse and physical and humiliating punishments.
  • Limited understanding of appropriate parenting practices, negative family norms and values, and family breakdown.
  • Children’s opinion and ideas are not heard and listened to in the families and communities
  • Chronic malnutrition is estimated at 29.8% in Samar province, which has generally been attributed to lack of access to adequate and nutritious food due to poverty as well as poor nutrition practices among caregivers.
  • High prevalence of gender inequality in the families and in the political spectrum of the society
  • 46.5% of children under five years are stunted, 27.9% are underweight and 16.4% are wasted.
