About The Project:

Project PRIDE (Protection, Respect, Inclusion, Diversity & Equality) for Children of diverse SOGIESC

Save the Children believes that all children deserve to be treated with respect. Unfortunately, many Filipino children with diverse sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics (SOGIESC) continue to experience violence and discrimination in many spaces, including their home and schools. Project PRIDE, a pilot project by Save the Children Philippines in partnership with GALANG PH, aims to promote the protection and inclusion of children with diverse SOGIESC in national and local legislative and executive policies; capacity building and programming of child-rights organizations and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual (LGBTQIA+) organizations; and within families and children/youth organizations in communities. This Project PRIDE will be implemented from 2023 until
2025 in Quezon City.

Needs of the Community:

Save the Children believes that all children deserve to be treated with respect:

  • Call on the government to protect and promote the rights of children and youth with diverse SOGIESC
  • Mainstream child and youth rights regardless of SOGIESC within different program areas by various child rights organizations
  • Improve support and protection for children and youth with diverse SOGIESC within their local communities
  • Follow-up government plans and actions to address Child Rights Committee Concluding Observations and Universal Periodic Review Recommendations on the discrimination against LGBTQIA+ children
  • Consciousness-raising on SOGIESC among government allies
  • Promotion of the inclusion and protection of children and young people of diverse SOGIESC in the legislative and executive policies
  • Capacity Building of child-rights organizations in mainstreaming SOGIESC
  • Capacity building of LGBTQIA+ organizations on child rights, child rights programming, and safeguarding
  • Support child participation in community decision-making processes and child/youth initiatives with Citizenship Fund
  • Support parents and caregivers in practicing positive parenting
  • Access on local protection services for children/young people of diverse SOGIESC
